GfK Retail and Technology East Africa officially launched in July 2010 after 5 years of operation under the South African office. The Nairobi office now serves as a hub for Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Uganda.
A census study was conducted in 2010 and implemented in the 2011 reports. Data tracking started in 2006 for smartphones and has since expanded to cover 18 product groups across all major channels.
Reports are available on a monthly basis and include analysis of key distribution channels i.e. mass merchandisers, consumer electronics stores and traditional independent retailers.
