Dear Client, dear Reader,
The first quarter of a new year brings fresh optimism as economies around the globe emerge from one of the toughest recessions we’ve experienced in decades. The Q1-2010 edition of GfK TEMAX (Technical Market Index), which is available in May, will show how technical consumer goods markets are faring in over 30 countries worldwide.
GfK Retail and Technology has proved steadfast in difficult times and continues to do so. The sector achieved outstanding growth in 2009, increasing sales by EUR 21.7 million to reach EUR 325.8 million.
The development of business activities with major clients was especially pleasing. Here it was possible to conclude most contracts with a higher order volume. The major portion of sales growth was achieved in Asia and the Pacific. Moreover, the sector achieved considerable growth rates in North America and Latin America, the latter's expansion is featured in this issue.
The acquisition of the majority shareholding in Etilize and the acquisition of the American contact lens panel C.L.E.A.R. helped strengthen the presence of Retail and Technology in North America. Exciting new developments in the Optics panel are showcased in this edition. GfK Digital World continues to analyse and report on the key developments in the global technologies markets, the very latest of which - LED technology in TVs - is detailed here.
Our commitment to expansion as well as improving methodologies and services has continued to reap rewards and contributed to our excellent performance. Having weathered a stormy 2009 successfully, a year of great promise and opportunity lies ahead!
Best regards
Dr. Gérard Hermet
