Every year GfK Retail and Technology (UK) employees vote on a number of charities, to select those which will become our ‘partners’ for that year, and the beneficiaries of our annual fund-raising events. These include everything from the small events in the office to the big events such as sponsoring individuals in the London Marathon.
In selecting our charities, we like to include one local and one national (UK), to reflect those less fortunate across the country as well as supporting those in our local communities.
This year, our chosen charities are:
NSPCC (national)
Surrey Air Ambulance (local)
In 2008, the total amount GfK donated was a record £7,681 (including company matching of employees’ funds raised), of which £1,938 was from funds raised through events and £5,743 donated by GfK. Our chosen charities for 2008 were:
CHASE (Hospice Care for children in South-West London, Surrey and Sussex) = £2,375
Macmillan Cancer Support = £2,041.
The remaining funds we raised were donated to those pursuing independent fundraising events:
Cancer Research UK (£1,039)
Cystic Fibrosis (£750)
Sport Relief (£300)
Breast Cancer (£287)
Testicular Cancer (£190)
Action Aid (£170)
Action Against Hunger (£130)
Plus another £400 to other charities.
Due to GfK’s continued commitment to fundraising – in April 2008 a Charity Committee was formed by a voluntary body of employees to organise additional fundraising events and co-ordinate the company’s fundraising accordingly.
Last year, fundraising events included a tombola at the GfK Fun Day, a coffee morning and a quiz night and raffle.
This year, the committee has dedicated itself to even more events - including Pancake Day fundraising, a Grand National sweepstake, Red Nose Day activities, another two quiz nights and a cake morning.
The aim for this year is to continue raising as much money as possible, make it enjoyable for our colleagues and continue to support individuals’ charity efforts.
