Testimonials

Read some career profiles of some of the successful members of our Commercial Teams. The testimonials will give you an idea of what it is like to work for GfK and how some of our people have made the most of the opportunities on offer.

Lisa Jenkins, Account Manager, Office Team

Lisa Jenkins I joined GfK two and a half years ago as a graduate account executive on the DIY commercial team following my degree. Since then I have developed a wide range of skills and have been promoted to the office team managing printing hardware accounts. A role within a commercial team at GfK is extremely varied. A typical day may include presenting market figures to a client, writing an article for a trade publication and dealing with any queries clients may have. I have found that one of the most rewarding aspects of being an account manager is developing and maintaining a good working relationship with a range of clients from high profile companies. In terms of future progression the emphasis is really on you to take your career in the direction you want - I have been given the freedom to develop my skills in my own way with the benefit of a supportive team and approachable management. I am also on the GfK charity committee and get involved in fundraising events to benefit local and national charities and will be taking part in the Great South Run this year with other colleagues.

Ben Mansell, Account Manager, Telecoms Team

Ben Mansell Since joining GfK a year ago, I never would have predicted the sheer range of work and responsibilities given by GfK to a graduate fresh out of University. By operating in close-knit teams, I was involved with strategic decision making and liaising with influential clients from very early on in my position, as all my experience and training is applicable to every level of the company. This also makes the career progression ladder clear and the next step always feel obtainable. I don’t therefore see my future at GfK in terms of weeks or months, but in years. A hugely inclusive culture, great social life and enjoyable work all combine to make my time so far at Gfk more rewarding than I could have possibly hoped for.

Matt Fisher, Senior Account Manager, Telecoms Team

Matt Fisher I work at GfK as a Senior Account Manager for the Telecoms panel. GfK is the second role in my career, and has provided me with a continued challenge in my roles. I've been relatively successful at GfK - rising from Account Manager (Level 1) to Senior Account Manager in the two years I've worked here. That serves as a marker for a company which does reward you if you're willing to put the effort and hard work into your role. Also, I've had the chance to move from one research panel to another, giving me the opportunity to learn and master a new marketplace.

The day to day tasks you perform can vary greatly - one day I'll be presenting to a large client or retailer, then another I'll be at a tradeshow developing leads and others in the office dealing with client queries or managing the Telecoms Hardware team. GfK life can sometimes be challenging, but is ultimately rewarding in terms of having happy clients. There's also something gratifying in seeing through deals from approaching new leads, to seeing this through to revenue in the accounts.

Ebony Arden, Account Manager, FashionLife team

Ebony Arden The beauty of working at GfK is that, in an incredibly short time frame, I have been given the opportunity to gain essential hands-on experience in many different aspects of the business. This has allowed me to rapidly develop and broaden my commercial skill set, ensuring both personal and team success. GfK invest a remarkable amount of resources in providing the right level of training for new joiners along with on-going training which greatly nurtures and facilitates career development. I wouldn't be able to describe a typical day at GfK as each day can differ significantly from the next. For instance, one day you may be creating a presentation of the current challenges facing a major blue-chip company in your market whereas the next you may be instrumental in creating an industry-first epos measurement. In all cases, GfK gives you the freedom to place your own individual market on your workload and actively encourages forward thinking. Despite being a large international company, GfK UK hasn't lost the friendly social cohesion often experienced by much smaller local companies due to its dynamic team-orientated culture.
